Review: Reckless Longing by Gina Robinson

Title: Reckless Longing
Author : Gina Robinson
Publication Date :

  • EditionEbook (ARC)
Ellie Martin hates her beautiful, man-crazy mother. Her mother’s wild and wanton behavior has left Ellie with a deep longing. To escape. To belong. To know who her real dad is. To really be loved. Her mother finally crosses a line that sends Ellie running, escaping to college with one, focused goal–to find and confront her bio dad, who doesn’t even know she exists. Then she meets Logan. Hot, charming, and troubled. He turns her world upside down and puts all her plans in jeopardy.

Logan Walker is hiding a shameful and painful secret. One that nearly cost him everything. When he meets the beautiful and mysterious Ellie at a Week of Welcome event, something inside him awakens and he finds himself drawn to her.

But the attraction they both feel for each other is as delicate as the web of secrets they each hide behind. And as the truths are revealed, their reckless longing may not survive the fallout.

Damn Ellie, I have never been so envious of a heroine! I wish I had Logan next to me when I had my piercings done, what an experience would that be, huh? Thumbs up for Robinson though, now I have a quirky reason to show my belly-piercing *smirks*
Ellie and her not so nice friends was attending freshers event when she stumbled upon black-eyed Logan, who kindly came to her rescue, holding her hands while she nervously awaits 'till her belly pierced.

This is the clever bit...

Ellie didn't go to that specific university without a purpose. she has a goal, a secret goal.
Logan, who have the whole holy trinity going on (smart, sexy, and chivalrous) has infact skeleton behind his closet too! *que the gasp*
Unraveling this mystery was totally a page turner, Robinson creatively twist and turn the plot - it was hard to predict what is the next move. Oh what a dramatic climax it was... my jaw was down the floor by the end of the book!

Character wise, it was so nice to like everyone of them, yes I admit I even like the villains - yes double villain indeed. They have properly acted out their 'evilness' purpose (if you get what i mean).
Ellie and Logan was such a star-crossed character, they have each dark secret they buried behind the closet - throughout the ups and downs of the story, they slowly began to reveal themselves to each other, reaching equilibrium.
Supporting characters were not shadowed, each individual was awesome on their own way. I personally love the revision gang, hear me out... they are not any ordinary revision team - they're like super spy and Stephen Fry's love child! apparently, baking goods + revision makes a very good grades~ I'd backed up this preach completely.
Something that i should mention to highlight is the way Robinson approach to unravel the story. She hasn't 'dropped the hot pot' at the introduction nor does she wrapped up the book in sugar fluff. Reckless Longing has its gritty deep angst Robinson cleverly slow stirred throughout the story - creating this very juicy, tender, and oh la la awesomeness!
Reckless Longing is one of the New Adult book people should read, especially those who like Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire or Real by Katy Evans. It's a more grown up version of 'Teenage Dream', with the flair of angst a la New Adult. Delicieux!

Rating: 5 Stars!

Character Interview: Cage and Sway from Cage by Harper Sloan

Hi y'all! I was lucky to take part in Cage (Corps Security #2) blog tour, arranged by Twinsie talk... AND i got a chance to have a chat with Cage and Sway!! To reminded you, Cage is an alpha guy with big heart, he would not hesitate to put his PapaBear's claws out if you harm his loved ones. Sway, the fabulous dazzling Sway, is the lucky neighbour of Corps Security and BFF of the ladies. Just to warn you, he can be lethal with heels.
Anyway, we had so much fun with our chat, and here's what we've been talking~
Me: Hi y’all, welcome to my blog! How are you? Thank you for joining us today, I’m super excited to chat with you two~ y’all are my favourites!
Me: UK is famous for its ‘brew’ especially in tea parties. So before the interview started, do you prefer coffee or tea?
Cage- I’m a coffee kind of guy.
Sway- Oh darlin’ I would love a cup of tea!  Aren’t you just a cutie!
Me: Aww, thank you Sway. You're fab!
Quickies questions-:
Megan Fox or Scarlet Johansson?
Cage- I think I can speak for Sway here that he would prefer neither, however I am more a Fox guy than Johansson.

Vampires, Zombies, Aliens or Werewolves?
Cage- Zombies.  I blame Harper for this one.  Boss lady is obsessed with Zombies.

What's your party trick?
Sway - Sweet child, I have so many party tricks you would just die. I could turn a straight man gay if he knew all I was capable of!
Me: *glances towards Cage*

If you had a superpower, which one would it be?
Sway - Mind control!  Working next door to these beef-cakes it would come in handy.
Me: *giggles* would it be a bad thing that i could actually imagine the situation *grins*

Now everyone have warmed up, let’s take it to the next level …
  • Can you tell us two fun facts about you? Go as crazy as you’d like…

Cage - There is nothing I love more than spending all day with Melissa and Cohen… but when Cohen is spending the night with Uncle Maddox or a sleepover with Nate the next best thing is spending time, alone, with my girl.  And regardless of what Axel says, I do not cry during sappy romantic flicks.
Me: Aww, that is so cute! I want to have sleepover with the gang too, maybe then we could see IF you actually not cry whilst watching chick-flick *evil laughs*
Sway - Yes he does!  Oh yes, I saw him do it the other night!
Me: Ok, we so need to arrange this Sleepover party! ASAP.
  • Tell us one item you always have daily…

Cage – Wedding band and cell
Sway- HEELS and a back up pair, you never know when you need a backup pair!
Me: Girl, I cannot agree more. Emergency heels to the rescue!
  • If there is one cocktail (alcoholic or not) named after you, what would you named them?

Sway – Blow job baby
Cage - Classy Sway.
Me: *shakes head* I could imagine Sway's pitch for the drink in front of business moguls. Scary, scary thoughts.
  • Give us your best attempt of British stereotype…

Cage - babe, I have no idea.  I try to not pay attention to stereotypes.
Me: Cage, have i told you you're the nicest guy ever? well, you are~

  • Name one power tool you frequently use (e.g. hammer, chainsaw, curlers, etc.) …

Sway - I don’t use those.  If I need something fixed or put together I call the guys.
Me: And appreciate the men at work, huh? Clever idea *smirks*

  • A lot of ladies (and some men) love a bit of guy strippers, what would your stripper name be (forename from the name of your first pet, and surname… the cheesiest you could find)

Cage - Figgy Chardonay.  Something tells me I wouldn’t be getting many lap dance request with a name like that.
Me: Rolling on the floor laughing. Literally.

  • Which one of you is the gym-lover? Do you guys train together?

Cage - you wouldn’t catch Sway in the gym unless he was there to check out the guys.  I try to go as much as possible but mainly I just work out in the basement at home so Cohen can come down and play around while I do my thing.
Me: Ladies, cue the "Oohs" and "Awws".

  • Slay Sway, do you think the men of corps security make a better cast for Magic Mike 2?

Sway, Sugar but Slay might work. ;) And oh yes those hunks of hot would be the perfect cast.  Channing who?!
Me: *blushes* I'm so sorry! blame it on the typo *glares at the keyboard*
  • Which one of you is Cohen’s favourite?

Cage- Right now he seems to be very attached to Maddox, but Maddox seems to share the attachment as well.
Me: Aww, Kudos to Maddox!

  • Sway, if you have to pick one of the guys, which one is your favourite and why?

Sway – Maddox, I just love all that tall, dark, delicious and broody.
Me: Yummm. I really want to meet Maddox now~ *grins*

  • Cage, name a chick-flick you have watched with the ladies?

Cage- I think I watched that one about a notebook the other day.  I don’t really remember, I woke up and it was over.
Me: *Smirks* are you sure?? did you not have tears by the end of it? *Shocked face*

  • Just between us, tell us one foolproof pick-up lines that always work for you?

Cage- Well, if you ask Melissa I’m terrible at them. Haha.

  • What one advice can you give to ladies out there?

Cage- Be confident
Sway- And rock it.
Me: *finger clicks* Uhhhuuummm, gurl! *looks around* what? i'm just adding dramatic effect~

  • Name one of your all-time favourite book.

Cage- Boss lady got Melissa hooked on some chick named Kristen Ashley.  I haven’t heard Melissa and Izzy shut up since then.  Apparently she writes the best ‘alpha males’ ever.  Whatever that means.
Me: OMG, Kristen Ashley! she's super awesome! I agree with your boss lady, i'm a fan~ *fangirling*
  • Will we see more of the gang in near future?

Sway- of course!
Me: Whoop whoop! i'm super excited!!

Thank you so much to hang out with us! I hope I can see you guys again *teary eyes*
~Bisous for y’all~ (French cheek kisses) and of course, bear hugs <3

Catch up with Cage, Sway, and the gang at Harper Sloan's new book - Cage!

Trust me, it's worth the read <3

Review: Cage (Corps Security #2) by Harper Sloan

Synopsis:

"Alpha heroes you'll want to kidnap and keep, heroines to root for, and sizzling love scenes with emotional punch." Carly Phillips, NY Times Bestselling Author

Greg Cage was born to protect. While growing up, he was his mother and sister’s shield against the world…until he failed. For the last decade, he has carried that guilt and need for vengeance

around… until it was stripped from him. Now, with his best friend getting married and no longer needing his protection, he is even more lost, completely adrift, and desperate for some control. All he has ever known was how to protect: his family, his friends, and his country. Can he go against everything he has ever known, and give up that control?

Melissa Larson will never let anyone hold the reins in her life. She has been the rock in her family for more years than she can remember, and the fight to keep them together is her main

priority right now. She has always been fiercely independent and proud. The last thing
she will ever do is ask for someone else’s help. But when that choice is out of her control, forcing her to rely on others to save her and her family, and pick up the pieces that are left, will she be able to let someone else be her strength?

The second Greg locks eyes with Meli, he knows that she is someone he needs. Someone he craves. Meli knew the second she met Greg that he would be nothing but trouble and heartache. Her life takes an unexpected turn, and that bitch Fate is back to wreak more havoc on

another member of the Corps family.

All hell breaks loose, leaving Greg no choice but to call in a favor. He hooks back up with his old friend Braxxon Breaker from the Breakneck MC. Together, they make sure that nothing

threatens anyone Greg loves again.
CAGE is a complete story with a HEA.

I'm sorry but I have to say it...

Cage is so much better than Axel.

Yes, I love Axel as a character (to be honest, i love all the corps men... and Sway). I can just see how Sloan as a writer becoming more confidence and have more control of her writing style. Kudos, chica!
Cage continues on from the ending of Axel. It began with a really awkward situation, which not surprisingly caught my attention *angel face*, it was set around the time of preparation on Axel's wedding and it was all hectic, nerve-wracking, and all that groomzillia.
The prose has better writing style, readers can really see how Sloan as a writer playing out with different 'goods' from book one. It is still written in two POVs but we got to see a lot more of the cast, and what really nice was that we go to see Axel and Isabelle - what have they up to since the end of book one.
Lets just say, there are hella lots of guns, drama, explosion, sex, drama, and did i mention scorching hot sex?
The flow of the story was paced quite nicely, it was a slow burn and teasing in the beginning yet ascending to faster, and faster towards the dilemma, leaving us to a great climax.
Character wise, Cage has been my favourite cast since Axel, he cared about the people he was with and he's not afraid to show his Papa Bear's claws when his loved one get hurt. Trust me, all hell broke loose. *KABOOM*
In Axel, I really thought he'll be uber sweet kind of man, oozing charm and less Neanderthal. I was right...ish. Cage is a charming, charming man with a hot body and confidence with his debauchery. ONE THING readers, Melissa is one lucky gal, experiencing his quirky piercings on his, uh, down south. Not one, not two, but BIG FREAKING SEXY THREE piercings. Yes, readers.. you have read it right.

let just have a minute silence to appreciate this fortunate fantasy...
Damn~

Anyway, Melissa~ sassy, sexy, and smart gal. Triple threat with sexual appetite bigger than a dozen starving camel (quite expected really, with Cage and all). Behind all that confidence, lays some vulnerability of which Cage needs to release from her. Not to mention, her responsibility with Cohen. Will he be their superhero? or would he leave all that potential and continue his no-strings lifestyle?
The ending was uber cute. I was gushing with awws and ooh. Readers who like HEA and big dramatic scenes would love Cage, more so the whole Corps Security series.

I can't wait until the third book, Beck comes out *dances*

As an ex-reviewer and blogger, Harper's passion for reading runs deep.
It wasn't until 'Axel' decided to take up residence that she realized her

Review: The Switch by JC Emery

Synopsis:

Shelby Brignac has gotten herself into some trouble. From her awful taste in men to her poor choices, she just can’t catch a break. After stupidly helping her boyfriend with his loan sharking business, Shelby has decided she wants out. It’s just too dangerous for a waitress, in her opinion. But just when she thinks she’s free of the headache, she’s offered up one last job– one last job she can’t refuse: retrieve a precious antique gem and she’ll get her best friend back alive.

Hiding out in New Orleans’ French Quarter with the rare purple diamond in tow, Shelby thinks she has no way out of the seemingly hopeless situation– that is until Chase Guilliot, an off-duty cop intervenes, saving her life. Too bad for Chase that the gunman who’s hot on his tail doesn’t care if one of his targets carries a badge– he just wants Shelby’s head and that diamond back. And he’s not above killing a cop to get it.

On the run with a hot rare diamond and a beautiful hot-headed woman, Chase’s oath to serve and protect is pushed to the limits. Unsure if he can trust the one person he wants to more than anything, Chase swears he’ll get both he and Shelby out of this mess alive, but then he’s done with her for good– or is he?

THE SWITCH is a thrilling contemporary romance that likes to live on both sides of the law.
Rating: 4 stars!

It got the actions, it got the fiery relationship, and it got a big bad drama! what a great trinity for a story.
This book hooks you from the very first page.

I really like how Emery plotted the story, it is not as fluffy girly actions as i thought it would be, in fact it felt like watching 'The Heat' injected with sex. The action thrill take a main role in the story. Yup, hide and seek with the bad guys. With guns.

The relationship between the hero and the heroine was quite good as well. They have the certain sparks in them that make them likeable. The hero is not quite a douchebag and the heroine actually quite likeable and have great humour. It's not that often i like the heroine than the hero, but i really do in this book. Her voice is enjoyable to read. Yes, she's not perfect, she has insecurities and all, but that make her more relatable to readers and make her more distinctive for me.

The hero, was an understanding guy. I like that he is not so neanderthal "me man, you woman. hear me roar" kind of guy. He actually listen to the heroine... did I hear some amen? yes, i did. he's not that naive to trust her completely as well, of course he don't want his face to be in WANTED poster as well as hers~ He is a nice guy i believe a lot of readers would love!

Though the sex are good, the clingy post-coital first sex let the whole relationship down. I mean, it is cute, but under this circumstances, i would have guessed they would think more of their life than "he loves me, he loves me not".

Sex aside, the actions, suspense, and the pacing are attention grabbing. It excite me from the start 'till the end. It doesn't hurt that it set in New Orleans... p.s. it really weirded me out how New Orleans been the setting for lust and troubles for more than a few decades...(Streetcar Named Desire, anyone?)

Check out JC Emery's Men With Badges series if you love action, New Orleans, and not-so-neanderthal hero!

Synopsis

If the decisions you make don't define you, what price would you pay to change them?

"Close your eyes. This is the darkness I see, I feel, I live because of my choices.

I spent my life running. Running from my past. A past that changed my life, robbed me of my childhood, and bound me for a life of silence. Silence protected me from further hurt. When I couldn't control my life, I found reprieve in my silence. Dark, cold silence. I'm trapped, trying to find my way out, trying to make a stand, trying to finally live; but is it too late?"

Lacey Edwards fought emotional turmoil most of her life. She made choices that unknowingly put her through more painstaking heartache. She found bits and pieces of happiness in all the wrong areas except for one. This one gave her hope for a fresh new life full of promises. Could she hold onto it, or would it slip through her fingertips?

Meet the Author

Author L.U. Ann moved to Colorado from the Eastern Shore of Maryland with her husband and two children. Life in Colorado is so much different. In Maryland, you would find her in the garden tending to her vegetables and flowers, sea glass and shark tooth hunting once a week, and enjoying the kids swimming in the backyard. Her life took a drastic change when her family moved to their own “Little House on the Prairie" at an elevation of over 6,000 feet above sea level, and a semi-arid climate that makes it hard to grow anything. While barely anything can grow where she resides now, the wildlife makes up for it. Mountain Lions, and coyotes, and rattlesnakes, oh my!

She tries to spend a little time each day writing, but domestic chores around the house usually take precedence. She would much rather hide them from her husband. She tends to her loving four-legged children who at times become much too demanding when she locks herself in the office. This often results in MORE domestic work, and she finds herself cleaning up after their deviant behavior.

At night, you’ll find her begging the kids to go to bed so that she can catch up on the latest book before her sister can. Yes, she is an avid reader who escapes her chaotic but wonderful home to the feisty depths of romance land in search of her newest book boyfriend. Shh, don’t tell her husband.

She is an artist by the grace of God. She worked as a set designer for six years, helping establish a local children's theatre where she was the scenery artist, set, and prop designer. Before that, you would find her covered in paint, so engrossed in painting a mural that time didn't exist. Graphic design is her guilty pleasure.

Destructive Choices is the second book in The Destructive Series. Each book will hit its reader with lots of angst hoping for a happily ever after.
